Take delight in helping others

Good morning to all,

Today I felt the need to speak in regards to giving and helping those in need. I am not sure about many of you, but my heart has a weak spot for the homeless and people that are in need. I know that many of us struggle with giving money to people that are standing on the streets for fear that they will take that money and do something wrong with it, and I completely understand that, but why not give something else?

A little over year ago, my husband and I went out for breakfast. During that date, he confessed to me that God put in his heart to begin helping those people that are less fortunate, and I also let him know that God had put the same desire in my heart. Since then, we have been able to not think twice about helping others because it has been something that we prayed about and something that God placed in our heart ( I do not write about this to glorify what we do, but to first to glorify God, and two to give a live example of what I am writing about ).

My point for this blog post is not to convince you to help the homeless but to open your eyes to the need around us. Sometimes we attend to church, school, and even work with people that are in need and don't even realize it because we are focused on things that do not have much importance. Instead of focusing on things of this world, we as Christians need to pray for discernment and for God to spark something special in our hearts for those that are in need.

Here are a couple of Bible verses that speak about giving. I hope you are blessed by them and that they can minister to your heart and mind.

"For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, "You shall open wide your hand to your brother, it the needy and to the poor, in your land." — Deuteronomy 15:11

"But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does Gods of abide in him?" — 1 John 3:17

"We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves." — Romans 15:1

"Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others." — Philippians 2:4

Stay blessed,

Cynthia Enid Cano
